Biography:

Maria Augusta Wozniak is a textile artist and fashion designer based in Edmonton, AB, Canada. She studied both in Canada, to complete a BFA in Fibre and Textiles at the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary, and in Italy, to complete a master’s degree in Fashion Collection Design at Polimoda in Florence. After working and studying in Italy, Maria decided to return to her hometown of Edmonton to work independently as a fashion designer and textile artist. Maria is now the founder and Creative Director of Augusta Fashion & Textiles. It is her goal as an artist to make work situated at the intersection of art and fashion. She looks to design and create for her community, but also believes that the responsibility of community leaders stretches beyond design and into opportunity creation for our neighbours. Maria works with local artists, designers, and craftspeople to collaborate in showcases and art/fashion presentations.

Maria’s work has been internationally featured in various exhibitions and publications such as VOGUE Mexico y Latino America, Photobook Sustainable Fashion Magazine, Elle Décor, and Artribune

About the Augusta brand:

Augusta Fashion + Textiles works towards proving that ethical fashion in Canada can be innovative, avant-garde, and progressive. We are known for our gender-neutral playful, colourful, and versatile designs, and utilize traditional artisan tailoring and textile design techniques while championing sustainable practices in Canadian fashion. Augusta is a brand that celebrates and showcases the value and beauty of slow fashion, upcycling, and the handmade. We sell high-quality one-of-a-kind garments designed and made in our atelier in Canada. We sell custom made to measure clothing as well as ready to wear looks using either textiles we design and make (or make in collaboration with local artisans), upcycled garments, or deadstock fabric.
