Born in Guatemala City, Stefano Giammattei began his fashion career when he was 16 years old. His first approach to menswear was when he interned at a Guatemalan label that specialized in fine tailoring. After said internship, he enrolled in Fashion Education at a local university; where he discovered his true passion, menswear. Stefano´s inspiration often comes from society, always trying to make sense of political conflicts, social stereotypes, and the unique components of the Guatemalan individual.
Contrasting social ideas, exposing feelings that are often suppressed by men, are some of the themes that are explored throughout his designs in a way to show the essence of his brand, trying to adequate fashion to the reality of society.
He presented his first menswear collection at Mercedes Benz Guatemala Fashion Week 2016, titled; “Real”. It was inspired by the Guatemalan stereotype of a “man” and the cultural contrast it creates against a fragile society. “City F/W” is Stefano Giammattei´s recent collection. As the name suggests, “City” is a collection inspired in the urban lifestyle of Guatemala. Urbanwear has yet to be discovered in Guatemala, Stefano has become a pioneer in this type of clothing, making it his passion and craft.
