Anita Sikma is a Jewelry designer who currently lives and works in Vancouver British Columbia. She has spent the last 10 years developing a cult following of her preceding jewelry lines and is excited to announce she will be previewing her new collection at Vancouver Fashion Week on Sunday March 20th.
Anita was born and raised in the small prairie city of Regina, Saskatchewan. As the designer of an automotive technician she spent her youth observing the value of hand crafted labour. This experience informed an intuitive understanding of mechanical design and cultivated a strong sense of material knowledge. Her familial history, accompanied with an investment in the aesthetic of Art Deco architecture and ancient Egyptian Art, directly informs her current studio based practice Anita Sikma Design.
Anita Sikma launched in 2008 a home studio apartment in East Vancouver. Her first collection, a series of pendants quickly gained attention amongst local artists, writers and musicians. With increased demand she relocated to a 150 square foot space in the garage of a metal fabrication shop. From this locations Anita developed a second complementary collection of silver and gold rings, earrings and bracelets. Collection II increased her entrepreneurial momentum, Anita Sikma Design confirmed showcases with exclusive local retail venues and attracted a diverse range of press opportunities extending brand recognition both nationally and internationally.
AS|SG is a collection inspired by muffler clamps, hoses, cold connectors and sprockets. The ornamental, wearable, sterling silver necklaces, chains, bracelets, rings and earrings will mark an innovative departure from my inaugurating collections. The viability of this project is reflected in the success of my previous two timeless collections of which all designs have been molded with the potential for quality successive reproduction whilst maintaining the individual distinction of handmade craftsmanship.
Anita’s professional activities include a vast portfolio of custom work, complimenting her current line of jewelry and succeeding towards the new collection. She participates in annual fundraisers, art and craft fairs, and pop-up events, such as The Western Front ‘Toque’ and regularly collaborate with artist collectives and individuals such as Dreamlover Collective, Angela Fama Photography, Eliza Faulkner at VFW, Sara Armstrong at VFW and Ryan Walter Wagner Photography. Her work has been featured in numerous publications such as the Westender, BCLiving Top 5 Jewelry Designers, BCLiving Fashion Trends, The Essential Vancouver, CBC NXNW, Press the Fashion Magazine, Magpie Darling, SGN-NYC, Made in Magazine, Donnelly Group, Huffington Post, Breakfast Televion with Suzie Wall Style, Vancouver is Awesome, This Fairland Rooftop Songs, This Fairland In Season, Zink Magazine, Dish Denim, Hearty Magazine and TLC Magazine among others.
