Tokyo-based designer Alexander Lee Chang sports a diverse heritage.
Born in San Francisco in 1975 to a Japanese mother and a Chinese father, Chang grew up during the apex of the West Coast skateboard culture, an influence that continues to influence the designer’s work. Chang’s collection of casual but hip designs has little concern for consistent combinations of prints and colours.
The designer has been using a prolific palette of sketched prints and bold, primary colors, all which come together to give, at least ostensibly, an all-around American vibe. Underneath it all, the collection has that intangible Japanese aesthetic that seems to manifest itself among the quirky details of the collection.
