Hila Herman is a Tel Aviv based fashion designer. Herman graduated from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem in 2007 with a degree (B.Des) in Visual Communication Design and worked as a graphic and web designer for several years. As she deepened and expanded her practice of the two dimensions’ design, often in the virtual space, being inspired and fully awakened by all fields of art and design, her desire for creating something tangible gradually increased.
Herman turned to her latent desire. In 2012 she studied in the External Studies Program for Fashion at Shenkar College for Engineering, Design & Art. Bringing her experience as a graphic designer and her insights into realization as a full time and a full minded fashion designer. In 2013 she established her fashion brand Magpie Goose.
For Herman, fashion is not only a fulfilled desire, but also a way to express her perception regarding femininity, masculinity and their social constructions. Herman perceives the design process as an act of deconstruction and reconstruction of shapes and ideas. Her design holds a certain tension between firmness and softness, structure and flow, self-awareness and nonchalant.
In her work, Herman is intrigued by the idea of creating something with an inner logic, almost linearly planned, in order to communicate an abstract emotion or thought, which eventually evolves into a perfect combination of intelligence and raw feeling.
